Yatton Methodist Chapel (1861)

"The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad." For two years special prayer to God has been made among us for rich displays of the Holy Spirit's power, in reviving the Lord's people and in awakening perishing souls. During these two years, in addition to the ordinary meetings for prayer at the Copse-road and the Congregational chapels, a weekly united prayer-meeting has been held, and a daily prayer-meeting at six o'clock in the morning. Within the last twelve months, the number of conversions amongst the residents and visitors in the congregations of both chapels has been considerable. Many of the converts are now in communion with their respective churches. Their clear views of gospel truth, their living faith and consistent walk, give most satisfactory evidence that it is "the true grace of God wherein they stand." Many of these are young men. Some of the cases are very interesting, but for obvious reasons the particulars are withheld. Not a few of the members of our churches have been greatly quickened, have given themselves to prayer, circulated copies of the Revival and gospel tracts, have visited from house to house, laboured earnestly in our schools; and have looked that God might bless us indeed, and enlarge our coast. The adjacent places, Kenn, Yatton, and Kingston, have been visited from on high. Precious souls have been awakened. In some few cases, even whole families have been converted to God. The songs of new born babes have cheered the servants of Christ, especially these who have long laboured in these villages; and greatly increased congregations have proved to the praise of God's grace, that "old things have passed away." During the past fortnight, our dear brother, James Pugh, from London, has been daily labouring in our midst with much acceptance and power. The chapels have been crowded with earnest hearers. The word has been preached "in demonstration of the Spirit." Very many have been "pricked in their hearts," and have found peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Great is the joy of those who have long persevered in prayer for this, and earnest is their desire that the young converts may be preserved, and also fed with the sincere milk of the Word that they may grow thereby, and that the unsaved around us may behold and learn Jesus in the consistent and earnest lives of all who profess to love Him We would abase ourselves, give God alone the glory, lay out ourselves still more in the service of Christ, look for far greater blessing, and from the deep conviction that God the Holy Ghost is the alone source of power for saints or sinners, would entreat on our behalf the prayers of " all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity."
