Gleiniant Welsh Calvinistic Methodist Chapel - Trefeglwys (1905)

We are delighted to be able to say that the Revival reached the above area a fortnight ago. Prayer meetings were held here the week before Christmas, but we felt nothing in particular that week. Meetings were held again the following week and on the evening of Tuesday, Dec 27th the Revival broke out. There was a marvellous meeting that Tuesday evening with the young people. We felt the heavens near. The congregation was in tears, and the young people were on their knees crying out for mercy. During the Christmas holidays, a number of our young men who work in the South came home as new men, having been baptised abundantly with the baptism of fire from on high. This church has now been transformed. The young people take a public part in the meetings with power and ease. There is a  strange novelty in the prayers. A young girl besought on her knees one evening “for the Lord to remember those people in our area who do not see an inch into the spiritual world." She confessed her transgressions, saying the Lord knew her fickle heart. Another cried for the Lord to save her brother. I have never heard such entreaty. By this time her prayer has been answered. The effects of the Revival here so far as we can see are as follows: 1. The prayer meeting has become the most popular meeting. Oh! Great Revival. 2. Members who were silent have come to speak with power. 3. The young people have become more serious-minded, and pray to God in tears. 4. As many as 48 have come to seek a place in His house, saying “I am the Lord's property." 5. The taverns are empty and the chapels full. Many of us here have experienced things that we have never experienced before. I am sure that some of us will never forget the first Sabbath in 1905 for the rest of our lives.

Additional Information

Mae yn hyfrydwch genym allu dweyd fod y Diwygiad wedi cyraedd yr ardal uchod er's pythefnos. Cynhaliwyd cyfarfodydd gweddi yma yr wythnos cyn y Nadolig, ond ni theimlwyd dim neillduol yr wythnos hono. Cynhaliwyd cyfarfodydd drachefn yr wythnos ddylinol. A nos Fawrth, Rhag. 27ain, y torrod y diwygiad allan. Cafwyd cyfarfod rhyfedd y nos Fawrth hono gyda'r bobl ieuainc. Teimlid fod y nefoedd yn agos. Y gynulleidfa yn ei dagrau, a'r bobl ieuainc ar eu gliniau yn llefain am drugaredd. Yn ystod gwyliau y Nadolig, daeth nifer o'n dynion ieuainc sydd yn gweithio yn y Deheudir adref, yn ddynion newydd, wedi eu bedyddio yn helaeth a'r beddyd tan o'r uchelder. Mae yr eglwys hon erbyn hyn wedi ei gweddnewid. Mae y bobl ieuainc yn cymeryd rhan gyhoeddus yn y moddion gyda grym a rhwyddineb. Mae rhyw newydd-deb rhyfedd yn y gweddiau. Erfyniai un ferch ieuanc ar ei gliniau un noswaith "am i'r Arglwydd gofio y bobl hyny sydd yn ein hardal nad ydynt yn gweled fodfedd i'r byd ysbrydol." Cyffesai ei chamweddau, gan ddweyd y gwyddai yr Arglwydd am ei chalon wamal. Llefai un arall am i'r Arglwydd achub ei brawd.' Ni chlywais y fath daerni erioed. Erbyn hyn mae ei gweddi wedi ei hateb. Effeithiau y Diwygiad yma hyd y gwelwn ni ydynt y rhai canlynol: I. Y cyfarfod gweddi wedi clod y cyfarfod mwyaf poblogaidd. O! Ddiwygiad mawr. 2. Aelodau mudion wedi dod i lefaru gyda grym. 3. Y bobl ieuainc wedi eu difrifoli., ac yn gweddio Duw yn eu dagrau. 4. Cymaint a 48 wedi dod i ymofyn am le yn Ei dy, gan ddywedyd Eiddo yr Arglwydd ydwyf fi." 5. Tafarndai gweigion a chapelydd llawnion. Mae yma lawer o honom wedi profi pethau na phrofasom hwy erioed o'r blaen. Yr wyf yn sicr nad anghofia rhai o honom y Sabbath cyntaf yn 1905 tra y byddwn byw.
