Afonwen English Presbyterian Chapel (1905)

On the afternoon of Easter Monday, April 24th, in the presence of a large audience, the foundation stones of the new chapel at Afonwen, Caerwys, were laid by Messrs. Samuel Smith, M.P., W. J. Davey, Maesmynan, and C. Tudor Hughes, Wrexham. The interesting ceremony was presided over by Mr. J. Herbert Lewis, M.P., who is an officer of the church. During the afternoon, the sum of £148 was received towards the expenses of the new chapel. This chapel is the only English Nonconformist place of worship between Denbigh and Holywell, a distance of 15 miles. We are overjoyed to see this church in such a successful position. Under the care of its devoted minister, the Rev. J. Bennett Williams, BA, it has recently doubled its membership. We congratulate him and the church on their bright prospects.
