Fenwick Parish Church (1644-1664)

The first minister of this church was the great William Guthrie. He was a very good preacher and pastor, and the people loved him. He had the opportunity to go to much bigger towns, but he always decided to remain with his people. When Charles I wanted to impose episcopacy on the Church of Scotland, Guthrie signed the Covenant opposing such action. On July 24th 1644 he was ejected from his pulpit on the orders of the king. He died just a year later.

Additional Information

Sadly a spark from the boiler burned down this lovely church in 1929. Only the walls were left standing. It was soon rebuilt.
