Edinburgh University (1884-1894)

The prayer meeting increased in numbers after the visit of evangelist Major Whittle and then of D L Moody. Another contributory factor was the replacement of non-religious Professors with those of an evangelical faith. Also, there was a new Principal who was a strong believer.

The fire was lit, however, by the visit of two Christian sportsmen from Cambridge. CT Studd and Stanley Smith. The Holy Spirit moved powerfully in their meetings, and many gave their lives to Jesus over the coming years. Teams of students went out from the University to different parts of Scotland to give their testimony of what had happened to them.
