Broughton (1860)

The revival fires spread from Biggar.

"The awakening and revival has also now commenced in the parishes of Broughton and Skirling, about 2 miles distance from this and at Kirkurd and Newlands the great work has been going on for some time, 8 miles distance. Crowded meetings were held here every night for some time".

From, 'The Wynd Journal', 3/3/1860.

The revival movement is spreading wide around all this district, and deepening in intensity. At Kirkurd, Broughton, Newbigging, Liberton, Quothquan, Carnwath, Braehead, and Forth, meetings for prayer and religious exercises are regularly held and numerously attended.
