Chippenham - Salvation Army

Date: 1882  ·  Place: Chippenham, Wiltshire  ·  Type: National well

(Capt Sutton) —Thank God for the mighty work He is doing in this little town. We arrived here on December 28th, and found a few waiting to welcome the Captain of The Army. There are many rejoicing today that ever The Army came here. Whole families are fighting in the Salvation Army ranks. The place fills every night. Sunday was indiscribable. Hall packed, doors locked, crowds outside. The people come from the country miles around. Some come seven and eight miles for Salvation, and go home singing like birds, and with hearts as light as a feather. Halleiijah! Just one testimony will show the nature of the work. "Dear frends," said one, "you all know me, and what I was, I was the greatest drunkard in Chippenham, but now l am saved." We closed such a week as Chippenham has never seen, On Sunday, twenty-four out for Salvation, making over 100 since we arrived here.
