All the soldiers say it has been the best week Partick has ever seen, so writes the Captain. At this rate the fire will not be put out very soon. All day on Sunday it was one continued stream of joy and blessing, and ended well.

(Capt Deakin).-Thank God, In spite of all opposition, we are conquering here! We are having some hard fighting in the open air, but God is giving us the victory. We took our band into one of the lowest parts of the town and very soon the enemy was hard at us. This was the height of ruffianism. While we were speaking to the people about their souls, they stoned us though we were dogs. We had heads cut, eyes cut, arms cut, bruised all over; and besmeared with blood we marched to the Hall.
