Ripley - Salvation Army

Date: 1882  ·  Place: Ripley, Yorkshire  ·  Type: National well

(Capt, Thirza Pick).-Glorious time on Sunday. As the "Praying Sailor," from Belper, Captain Peck spoke of Gods love, and our hearts melted to see sinners returning home. One dear Iad cried bitterly for mercy, and finding a full Salvation, he ran and threw his arms around his father's neck, weeping for joy. His mother, being in the Hall, was broken down at the sight, and the young recruit went to urge his mother to escape to yonder mountain. After a glorious meeting, we went home strengthened like giants refreshed with new wine. Halielujah! Whole families being saved. Five were made heirs of Heaven. Glory!

(Capt. Pick); Lieut. Brettell writes- "Praise God for what He is doing in this Corps. This past fortnight has been one long to be remembered. Drunkards of the deepest dye now drink at the fountain that never runs dry. On Saturday last we met in the Market Place, and commenced singing—

"We are travelling home to Heaven above!"

Crowds of people gathered around us and listened with attention, then one after another spoke, and we saw men and women weeping; winding up with four souls for Jesus. Hallelujah! On Sunday we had a splendid day. At night our Hall was full. God worked wonderfully; ten precious souls wept their way to Calvary.

(Captain Pick),-All hail! Another week of triumph and rejoicing. You should see our numbers how they swell, Not unto us be the praise. It is the Lords work. We are His happy instruments. A splendid capture of eleven of the devil's militia on Sunday. At our Hosanna Meeting, on Monday, six young men, who came to scoff, stopped to pray.
