Heighington - Salvation Army

Date: 1882  ·  Place: Heighington, County Durham  ·  Type: National well

(Capt. N Seymour) On Sunday, January 22nd, a detachment of Soldiers from the 195th Corps, Lincoln, paid a visit to this beautiful, though sin blighted village, where they were welcomed by the members of the Free Church, who kindly lent us their chapel during the day. We had glorious open-airs. How the people stared at us as we walked backwards, and sang all the while. In the morning had a Holiness Meeting, and the power came down, and many trembled on their seats. At the evening meeting the chapel was crammed to excess, and there were as many people outside as in.

We saw the penitent tear roll down the cheek of many, and at the close four souls wept their way to Calvary. Hallelujah! The prayer of many is "Do send us The Salvation Army.

From, "The War Cry," page 3, 9th February 1882.

I do not know where the Free Church was.
