John Wesley visiting Bocardo Prison (1730)

Wesley used to visit the debtors in the Bocardo Prison once a month and other members of the Holy Club frequently ministered to the prisoners.

Additional Information

The Bocardo Prison used to be connected to the tower of St Michael of the North Gate that was part of the old city wall. Cranmer, Latimer and Ridley were in prison here before being led around the corner to be burned at the stake. The door of their prison can be seen in the church.
