Thurso Congregational Church (1840)

A series of morning and evening meetings were organised by the pastors of the Congregational churches of Wick and Thurso in 1840. Continuing daily for a fortnight and supported by open-air preaching, which was found useful in collecting hearers, almost 1,000 people packed into the Congregational chapel in Wick night after night, while the audiences in Thurso reached twice the usual Lord's day attendance. The spirit of prayer seemed to be greatly excited among members of the churches. 160 came forward as anxious enquirers, with some very affecting cases.
