Tunbridge Wells - Salvation Army

(Capt. Hare). We are continually receiving some excellent accounts of the grand work which is being carried on here. A correspondent, signing himself, Sanders, gives us a list of thieves and drunkards, converted through the instrumentality of the Army. These are only samples of what we are continually receiving from all parts of the country. Our limited space prevents us giving a tenth part of them. We can only say to the Hare and Soldiers, keep running, and keep sending,

(Capt Hare) - We arrived here, after nearly three hours dreary ride, just in time for the Saturday Free-and-Easy, and found that there was no fog about the experience of these Tunbridge Wells Soldiers, Straight, pointed, telling, heart-felt words, backed by the Holy Ghost. We commenced Sunday by all giving ourselves afresh to the Lord. We finished up at night with six souls in the fountain. Monday morning and afternoon. Holiness Meering led by Admiral Fishbourne. Powerful time of surrendering to God.

From, "The War Cry," page 3, 23rd February 1882.

(Capt. Hare) — Better than ever here. More War Cry’s sold and less beer. More coming to our meetings, and less going to the pawn-shops. More praying, less swearing. More push and bravery in the Soldiers, and less complaining and cowardice. More in the open-air, and more in the Hall. More music and more uniforms. Two Halls on Sunday instead of one, and better collections. Better still, more souls at the Mercy-seat. More opposition and more victories. More Christian Societies going out in processions, and clergymen coming to our seven o'clock prayer meetings to get a warm up. A lot more good things to follow, but we have only space this week for these.

From, "The War Cry," page 3, 9th March 1882.

I do not know where the meetings were held.
