John Street Church - Stirling

Date: 1840  ·  Place: Stirling, Stirlingshire  ·  Type: National well

Protracted meetings were conducted over a fortnight, commencing with a nine o'clock prayer meeting (which sometimes drew over 400 people), and including a short address from a minister present. A prayer meeting was also scheduled for noon and another in the evening following the public meeting; whilst at least six others took place in private homes. To these prayer meetings, the ministers looked with peculiar interest as being the power-house of the movement.

The main meetings were so successful that on some evenings the John Street (Secession) Church was crowded with around 2000 people, after-meetings drawing in from 400 to 1000, while over 300 persons were conversed with separately.
