Alexandria, Congregational Church

Date: 1838  ·  Place: Alexandria, Dunbartonshire  ·  Type: National well

Six students from the Glasgow Congregational Academy, went on a spring break evangelistic journey to Alexandria, the Vale of Leven. They had crowded nightly meetings and at the end of the series they asked anxious enquirers to wait behind and sixteen people did; all of them giving their lives to Jesus. A general awakening followed and a Congregational Church was formed with fifty people and six months later there were 100 to fill the new church that had been built.

With thanks to Tom Lennie's, 'Land of Many Revivals', page 317-8.

Some think this was the pre-cursor to the Kilsyth Revival.

The church was somewhere in Bank Street, eventually becoming Alexandria North Church, but the area was re-developed in 1973.
