Bethnall Green - Salvation Army

Date: 1882  ·  Place: Bethnal Green, London  ·  Type: National well

Private W Fason, writes - "Some people say we are going down, but they would not say so, if they would only come and see for themselves. Last Sunday was a scene never to be forgotten; in the Old Arch. In the morning we had a real time of blessing. At the close one soul came out and ventured all on Jesus. At two o'clock we held a "Come and See" Meeting, led off by two cornets, one flute, and a concertina, and at the close, two more came to the Mercy-seat. In the open air at six, the yard was full of people of the right sort. Inside at seven, the Female Cadets were with us. The power of God was felt all over the Hall. In the prayer-meeting eight more came out, and professed to having their sins forgiven. After we got up from our knees, two strong-built young men had fallen down at the Mercy-seat, and down we went again and asked God to save their souls. When we all got up, they testified that God had pardoned their sin and one of them said! "There was not a more wicked young man in London, than I have been." We finished up praising God for answering prayer, in giving us the thirteen souls for our hire during the day."

(Cadets), — Private Wm Eason writes: On Sunday morning we had a good march, and then went inside. The meeting was led by Major Clapham. The Female Cadets, Captains Young and Llewelyn were with us. In the afternoon we had good Free-and-Easy, led by Capt, Harrington. A backslider came to the Mercy-Seat, and six followed his example. At night we had a glorious meeting. At the close seven more came to the Mercy-seat. On Monday a tea meeting on a large scale was arranged. At tive o'clock a meeting was held in the yard, led by Cadet Davis. We adjourned for tea at six o'clock At ten minutes to seven a procession left the Hall, including thirty six Female Cadets, marching about a mile-and-a-half out, and in again at fitteen minutes to eight o'clock. Major Clapham led a real Hailelujah meeting.
