Battersea - Salvation Army

Date: 1881  ·  Place: Battersea, London  ·  Type: National well

(Capt. Arthur Smith) Jack Hunter" writes "We finished up the old year grandly at this Station. Saturday night about forty out in the open-air and inside drunkards, wife-beaters, and swearers told of God's power to save and keep, many having to say it was the best wind-up of the year. Watch-night Meeting, grand 120 for consecration. Sunday, open-air; met at the "Old Pump." People held spell-bound by the testimonies of saved drunkards and big sinners. Inside, Hallelujah Free-and-Easy: sixty and seventy living testimonies, but the night was the crowning point of the day. As a band of "Redeemed Slaves" testified of God's saving power, the holy unction fell upon us, and at the close seven precious souls sought and found Iiberty. Six of them testifying after. Glory to Jesus. Thank God Battersea is rising spiritually and financially. Glory:"

From, "The War Cry," page 3, 12th January 1882.
