First Methodist Leaders Meeting (1742)



This meeting was at Dugoedydd Farm, near Cilycwm on January 7th. It was the first organised meeting of leaders of the Calvinistic Methodists. George Whitefield was invited, but he was busy. Daniel Rowland presided and apart from Howel Harris and William Williams, there were twenty other leaders.

Whitefield wrote a letter with his ideas laid out and after the emeting Harris wrote, 'We sat up until near 12 praying and consulting.' To Whitefield he wrote, 'Everyone agreed with your thoughts, we had much union, sweetness, concord and brotherly love together.'
