John Foxe was born here. He wrote his first edition of 'Acts and Monuments' in 1563. This book became known as 'Foxe's Book of Martyrs' and was in many volumes. His record of how and why martyr's died became required reading and was second in popularity only to the Bible. Small versions of the book are still published today.
