In October 1822 a plan was drawn up with Wilberforce, Macaulay, Dr Lushington and Lord Suffield at Cromer Hall. They formed the Anti-Slavery Society to collect evidence and spread information, of which Buxton was the Vice-President. This was the beginning of the strategy against slavery.
