Bont - Goch - Humphrey Jones (1858)

A preaching festival was held at Bont-Goch which was attended by a great many people. Humphrey Jones was to be the third speaker at the evening service. Throughout the day and in the evening there was a spirit of hardness and heaviness upon the congregation, but when he gave out the hymn a strange influence was felt by all present so that the hymn was repeated several times over. Jones then preached on Ephesians 5:14. One witness described the scene which followed as 'a second Pentecost', for before the preacher had finished his closing prayer, 'scores of people were praying aloud until the preacher's voice was drowned.'
