Sennen

John Wesley preached in Sennen in 1743, mainly to grey-haired old men.

Revival came in 1832. The circuit minister records, 'On Monday, March 12th, the work broke out in a very gracious manner at Sennen. The chapel was crowded to excess, and the meeting lasted until near eleven o'clock. Many were in distress; a few found peace; and they returned to the chapel the next morning, when one sinner, of more than seventy, found peace. In Sennen, a small place, more than twenty souls were saved that night'

I do not know where the meetings were held.

Hello, just come across your site from link on Uk Revival site. Having read the entry for Sennen, just thought I would forward info which might be useful. The entry mentions a chapel where meetings were held during 1832 revival wave I presume.
There was a Baptist chapel in Sennen near the Parish Church of St Sennen, and 2 other chapels, one at Escalls just before Sennen (Bible Christian, still active today, wonderful people, they sent the Jesus Heals the Nations praise bus through the Uk in 2012, one hour ahead of the Olympic flame! Built in 1900 if I remember well) and another chapel at Sennen Churchtown (a Wesleyan one, built in 1815), this may possibly be the one they refer to in the report, but of course, it may not! We have been living in it since 2012 ( it had been converted by previous owner), but all the papers were lost when the Sunday School was built later. The Methodists in the early 20th c would start having a service at Escalls in the morning, then walk through the village and gather for picnics etc, have the children taught at the Sunday school and finish the day with evening prayers at the Sennen one, info from the book on the old Sennen. It is now called The Old Methodist Chapel, but the name Hepzibah, My Delight, keeps popping up in prayer from time to time, we might rename it at some point! Anyways, there is a wonderful renewed unity between the churches and chapels in the area, thanks to newly appointed vicars and reverends, all passionate about the Celtic ways as well as the revival wells! One lovely steward sadly has just passed away but am sure still intercedes for revival of the hearts here. Sorry, long message, but just to say, there is a peace in the chapel, which we owe to years of faithful prayers, and one day maybe, it will be again a dedicated place of worship apart from our family. Our eldest son has held worship gathering here from time to time, albeit it is fairly small! Anyways, many thanks for your site, very encouraging, so don't know if this chapel is the one they write about, but it's Wesleyan and was up and active in 1832. I just love to worship on the Welsh Revival hymns from time to time here, and play the old sermons from the Celtic revivals in the Uk! Stephanie
