James Guthrie was hanged by the Mercat Cross that was in the middle of the High Street, opposite Anchor Close. The left hand photo has Anchor Close on the extreme right, and according to an old map the Mercat Cross (which can be seen in the right hand photo - it has been moved) was in the middle of the road close to Anchor Close.
